Flasher ~ Mesh ~ Pinkwash

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors7:30 PM ShowFLASHERThe band’s 2018 debut, Constant Image, was a triumph – a set of songs both dizzy and explosive, balancing new-wave lushness and post-punk frenzy. Love is Yours steps up the ambition and reaches for the horizon. The record is ablaze with mood, melody, and carefully threaded hooks, finding the band foregrounding the pop sensibilities that had always been present in their previous releases. It retains the attitude that was fundamental to the band’s DIY roots, but cuts loose a touch of the angst. Though the songs process disillusionment and loss, the music evokes warmth and optimism. It is their best record and also their most generous.https://flasherdc.bandcamp.com/album/constant-imageMESHPhilly 4-piece punk band, Mesh, formed in late 2019 building their sound from 3 demos recorded by guitarist and vocalist Sims Hardin (Dark Web). Sims, joined by Allison Durham (posture) on guitar and vocals, Steve Darling (Mint) on drums, and Tom Riese (Mint) on bass have departed from the demos to create something more cohesive and diverse sounding. With the formation of the full band, Mesh’s sound is driven and angular, drawing inspiration from bands like Wire, UV Race and Swell Maps. Their debut tape is being released summer 2021 on Born Yesterday Records based in Chicago. https://meshphilly.bandcamp.com/PINKWASH PINKWASH is a heavy punk duo based out of West Philadelphia. After an EP and 7-inch released on Sister Polygon, their debut LP for Don Giovanni Records is out now. Splintered rhythms and ultra-loud riffs. https://pinkwash.bandcamp.com/

TIOGA ~ Scorpio

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors8 PM ShowTIOGASandwiched between citywides and cheesesteaks, you’ll find the stomping grounds of TIOGA, a quartet that sounds like they grew up on New Order and Springsteen, but listened to a lot of The Killers and Bleachers as impressionable college kids. The group marries their meaningful lyricism and endearing style of alternative indie with a hearty bass and danceable synth-pop sound. Their homebase now extends beyond the confines of Philadelphia, and as far as the Big Apple. TIOGA sounds like if Jack Antonoff and Brandon Flowers went to a karaoke bar and sang Talking Heads songs until they got kicked out and then mumbled David Bowie songs to themselves on the walk home.https://tiogatheband.com/(Photo: Carol Simpson)SCORPIOEast coast bb // diet coke drama queenhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0qYpoq6SzqQsmkZtRBm4pH

Screamcloud ~ Dog in a Man Suit (EP Release) ~ Broke Body at Kung Fu Necktie

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors7:30 PM ShowSCREAMCLOUDscreamcloud is a band that loves all things heavy: baritone guitars, noisy riffs, and songs that explore the existential dread that comes with modern life.https://screamcloud.bandcamp.com/DOG IN A MAN SUIT (EP RELEASE)Dog in a Man Suit’s latest EP, Trapped!, is a fuzzed-out ode to their reckonings with age. The EP sees the band’s shared love of 2000s emo collide with influences like The Pixies, Queens of the Stone Age, and The Strokes. Thematically, the EP deals with the malaise and uncertainty so many 20-somethings face as they stumble ill-prepared out of adolescence. Much like the name of the band itself, it addresses an internal schism of identities outside of one’s control.https://doginamansuit.bandcamp.com/album/screamingBROKE BODYBroke Body is an auditory cocktail of punk, psychedelia and nostalgic rock and roll, shaken and served in the bowels of Philadelphia.https://brokebody.bandcamp.com/album/bleed

Pip Blom ~ Catcher at Kung Fu Necktie

PIP BLOM Amsterdam’s Pip Blom released their debut album ‘Boat’ on Friday 31st May 2019.Pip’s in a very interesting space sonically; with the help of a dedicated band, Pip has evolved her sound away from simple, hooky tunes to expertly-crafted songs with unassuming depth. Although, she’d never actually admit to it. She’s too modest. “I hope that if you listen to Boat, you can hear the different routes we explored…We took our time and it was quite a journey, but I think it was time for us to finally release an album,” says Pip. “We’ve grown so much as a band, both live and in terms of songwriting. Our boat hasn’t reached its final destination yet, but if think with releasing this album, it’s a great pit stop.”CATCHERCatcher is a Brooklyn-based post-punk band with a reputation for visceral and powerful live performances. Drawing comparisons to the birthday party, sonic youth and the fall, catcher delivers music with a driving and inundating low-end, provided by childhood friends Cameron Mcrae and Wilson Chestney, on bass and drums respectively. Guitarists Jack Young and Christian Reech interweave melodies and noise to create an environment that manages to be at once both bleak and moving, desolate but hopeful, violent but tender. Classically trained violinist Zach Mezzo brings, through his background in experimental composition, a combination of moody swells, driving staccatos, and vicious noise that enrich and accentuate the dynamics and dramatics inherent to the band’s songwriting. Vocalist Austin Eichler commands listeners with a domineering and chaotic presence. From drawling croons to powerful screams, Austin’s narrative lyrics invoke a wide spectrum of emotion while creating a world of their own. Through endless hours of practice and work the band has crafted a gripping and tight live performance and a growing international fanbase.

Ed Schrader’s Music Beat ~ Evil Sword at Kung Fu Necktie

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors8 PM MusicEd Schrader’s Music Beat With a single EP as an a cappella screamer-crooner to his name, Ed Schrader brought on bassist Devlin Rice to form the two-piece Ed Schrader’s Music Beat after the two met on the legendary 2008 Baltimore Round Robin tour. Rice’s presence instantly brought aesthetic focus to Schrader’s disparate musical tendencies. The primal screams were made driving and heavy and the visionary chants became post-new wave mood pieces. The evolution is unmissable on their first two records as a duo, Jazz Mind (2012) and Party Jail (2014). On the Dan Deacon-produced Riddles (2018), the band exploded their sonic palette with the addition of synthesizers, player piano and a dedicated percussionist bringing to life a tracklist produced and co-written by Dan Deacon. Upon its release, the record garnered widespread acclaim. NPR called it an “odd and captivating piece of work.” Pitchfork called it “a defining point in their career.” Rolling Stone praised it as “a noise-punk album that bursts with psychedelic twists.” SPIN called it “a memorable and eclectic record … one that can bleed and weep and still make you want to get up and scream.” Since 2010, the duo has mounted TK NUMBER tours across the U.S. and Europe both as a headliner and in support of major acts Beach House, Future Islands and Dan Deacon. They’ve shared bills with No Age, Lightning Bolt, Matmos and Ceremony. Evil SwordDeep inside the hideous forest, between life and death, laughter and slaughter, you’ll find Evil Sword. Their chaotic live shows combine elements of noise, performance art, and gallows humor. Vocalist Kate Ferencz and bassist Ben Furgal carve out a shadowy world of percussive horrors. Bells and idyllic whistles give birth to otherworldly squeals and squawks which soon degenerate into cries of anguish and rattling chains. Will you scream in terror or dance in delight as the world burns?

Mock Orange ~ Fire in the Radio at Kung Fu Necktie

Mock Orange Mock Orange was founded in Southern Indiana back in 1994. Their 1998 album “Nines and Sixes” was met with critical acclaim. It placed the group on national college radio charts and established a loyal fanbase. The band has since worked with such producers as Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World/Blink 182), J. Robbins (Jawbox/Jets to Brazil/Clutch), and Grammy Award winner Jeremy Ferguson (Cage The Elephant/Lambchop). The next 10 subsequent records solidified their standing as an innovative, genre blurring band. Currently, Mock Orange continues to release albums and EP’s, tour the U.S., Europe and Japan, and amass a consistently growing cult following. Fire in the Radio Fire in the Radio released their sophomore album New Air on May 5th via Wednesday Records. The album is the follow-up to their 2015 acclaimed record Telemetry. New Air finds the band pushing their unique brand of indie-punk in a fresh direction incorporating elements of new wave, grunge, and shoegaze drone into tightly crafted pop songs. The result is a notably darker effort than Telemetry, and proves to be the bands most ambitious and successful collection of songs to date. New Air was recorded at Gradwell House studios (Beach Slang, Into It. Over It.) and mixed by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung). Fire in the Radio began work on New Air following significant touring in support of 2015’s Telemetry, which included performances at Gainesville, Florida’s FEST and Montreal’s Pouzza Fest.

Clockwise on Fire ~ G. Mervine at Kung Fu Necktie

*Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry* *Attendees are encouraged to wear masks while not actively drinking*   Clockwise on Fire Clockwise On Fire is the musical union of longtime friends and collaborators Tim Arnold [Good Old War, Anthony Green] and Brian Lynch. The duo, who blur the lines between eloquent songcraft and instrumental fluidity, channel a spirit of unbridled freedom on their forthcoming debut album. On the 8-songcollection, mixed by Jason Cupp [Maps and Atlases, American Football, Milk Carton Kids, Good Old War], Tim contributes drums, percussion, synths, and keyboards, while Brian holds down guitar, bass, synths and keyboards, with both sharing lyrical and vocal duties. Brian and Tim first began playing music together during middle school in the Philly suburbs, experimenting, improvising, and exploring sounds at a formative age together. After high school, life carried the musicians down separate roads. Tim co-founded Good Old War, releasing four full-length albums and four EPs in addition to touring nationally, while Brian stayed local performing in various bands. In 2017, the two reconnected and launched a Primus cover band, Los Bastardos, and by 2019 had started collaborating on original music. Even in the face of the pandemic, Tim and Brianwere locked into an unbreakable groove, resulting in Clockwise OnFire.   g. mervine In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events.
