Ed Schrader’s Music Beat ~ Evil Sword at Kung Fu Necktie

*All events are 21+ valid ID required for entry*7 PM Doors8 PM MusicEd Schrader’s Music Beat With a single EP as an a cappella screamer-crooner to his name, Ed Schrader brought on bassist Devlin Rice to form the two-piece Ed Schrader’s Music Beat after the two met on the legendary 2008 Baltimore Round Robin tour. Rice’s presence instantly brought aesthetic focus to Schrader’s disparate musical tendencies. The primal screams were made driving and heavy and the visionary chants became post-new wave mood pieces. The evolution is unmissable on their first two records as a duo, Jazz Mind (2012) and Party Jail (2014). On the Dan Deacon-produced Riddles (2018), the band exploded their sonic palette with the addition of synthesizers, player piano and a dedicated percussionist bringing to life a tracklist produced and co-written by Dan Deacon. Upon its release, the record garnered widespread acclaim. NPR called it an “odd and captivating piece of work.” Pitchfork called it “a defining point in their career.” Rolling Stone praised it as “a noise-punk album that bursts with psychedelic twists.” SPIN called it “a memorable and eclectic record … one that can bleed and weep and still make you want to get up and scream.” Since 2010, the duo has mounted TK NUMBER tours across the U.S. and Europe both as a headliner and in support of major acts Beach House, Future Islands and Dan Deacon. They’ve shared bills with No Age, Lightning Bolt, Matmos and Ceremony. Evil SwordDeep inside the hideous forest, between life and death, laughter and slaughter, you’ll find Evil Sword. Their chaotic live shows combine elements of noise, performance art, and gallows humor. Vocalist Kate Ferencz and bassist Ben Furgal carve out a shadowy world of percussive horrors. Bells and idyllic whistles give birth to otherworldly squeals and squawks which soon degenerate into cries of anguish and rattling chains. Will you scream in terror or dance in delight as the world burns?

The Pack A.D. ~ The Size at Kung Fu Necktie

The Pack A.D. Destruction and melody, acid wit and bruising vocals-this is the Pack A.D. Singer/guitarist Becky Black and drummer Maya Miller have made a sound so gigantic, so fierce and raw and empowering, that it’s easy to forget there are just two people behind this brilliant, carefully constructed havoc. Shredding and pounding their way through every song, the Pack A.D. swallows you whole inside their fearless Franken-blend of heavy psychpop/garage-rock. Their lyrics are wild nests, human and complex: darkly funny disclosures about depression; indictments of digital excess; grief-stricken fire bombs; sly crusades against stupidity.   In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events. Hot Flash Heat Wave ~ Small Crush ~ Similar Kind at Kung Fu Necktie

Hot Flash Heat Wave The San Francisco trio of Adam Abildgaard, Nick Duffy, and Ted Davis have built a loyal following and constant buzz over the last several years, with the 2019 EP ‘Mood Ring’ standing as their most kaleidoscopic work to date. Merging the quintessential melodies of pop’s past with contemporary touches to forge something truly unique, Hot Flash Heat Wave is just starting to create their own sonic world. Last year’s EP launched the group into a realm entirely different from their previous catalogue. It is their truest-to-heart release yet, synthesizing a wide range of influences encompassing My Bloody Valentine, Frank Ocean, New Order, and Toro y Moi into something that sounds new and refreshing. Mood Ring’s lead single “Glo Ride” bounces with a slight R&B tilt against a dark, trippy atmosphere, while “Sky So Blue” finds the band spiralling into full-on psychedelia, complete with layers of spell-casting keyboards and a wonderfully zonked-out breakdown. And the future only seems brighter from here: with September’s single ‘Grudge’ teasing a 2021 LP, Hot Flash Heat Wave is preparing for the next step up the staircase in their colorful sonic journey, with determination to elevate their craft in the process. Mock Orange ~ Fire in the Radio at Kung Fu Necktie

Mock Orange Mock Orange was founded in Southern Indiana back in 1994. Their 1998 album “Nines and Sixes” was met with critical acclaim. It placed the group on national college radio charts and established a loyal fanbase. The band has since worked with such producers as Mark Trombino (Jimmy Eat World/Blink 182), J. Robbins (Jawbox/Jets to Brazil/Clutch), and Grammy Award winner Jeremy Ferguson (Cage The Elephant/Lambchop). The next 10 subsequent records solidified their standing as an innovative, genre blurring band. Currently, Mock Orange continues to release albums and EP’s, tour the U.S., Europe and Japan, and amass a consistently growing cult following. Fire in the Radio Fire in the Radio released their sophomore album New Air on May 5th via Wednesday Records. The album is the follow-up to their 2015 acclaimed record Telemetry. New Air finds the band pushing their unique brand of indie-punk in a fresh direction incorporating elements of new wave, grunge, and shoegaze drone into tightly crafted pop songs. The result is a notably darker effort than Telemetry, and proves to be the bands most ambitious and successful collection of songs to date. New Air was recorded at Gradwell House studios (Beach Slang, Into It. Over It.) and mixed by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung). Fire in the Radio began work on New Air following significant touring in support of 2015’s Telemetry, which included performances at Gainesville, Florida’s FEST and Montreal’s Pouzza Fest.

Sean Nicholas Savage ~ Air Waves ~ Johnny Dynamite ~ Suburban Losers at Kung Fu Necktie

Sean Nicholas Savage’s Spring 2022 Life Is Crazy, the accurately titled new record from Sean Nicholas Savage, is unlike anything we’ve heard from the cult balladeer. No drums or bass on the album, the accompaniment consists strictly of pure piano and lush strings, leaving Savage’s songwriting bare to the listener like never before. “for a fresh direction here, i’ve attempted to reduce the focus to just songwriting and singing. particularly contemplative ballads, which through the years remain closest to my heart. i’ve aimed for a vocal spirit and energy that closely resembles my live performance, which is an integral part of my identity as an artist not always represented in my recorded work.” Life Is Crazy is a bold and attuned record. Conceived in his transition to theatre, it marks the dawn of a new era for SNS, and a long-awaiting return to the full-length LP format. This will be Savage’s first album release since completing a revered master-cassette trilogy – Magnificent Fist (2016), Yummycoma (2017), and Screamo (2018). Lyrically, Savage grapples with his signature themes of perception, identity, and the unknown, among others. While still abstract, the metaphors and subject matter are effortless and more inviting than ever before. New to Life Is Crazy is a narrative tone removed from time. “there is this thing on the album where i was trying to write to the future to an audience that doesn’t exist. you know, we’ve talked many times about how an audience is exponential, as we see what is niche or outsider today is often more popular tomorrow. there’s a lot of that in ‘years from tonight’ which really sums up how we never know those future versions of ourselves. Also the album closer ‘in the silence of the crowd’ depicts just how invisible that can feel. That resonates in a few of the other songs too so i thought it was a cool thing to touch on since it feels sometimes like the only hopeful glimmer these days.”AIR WAVESNicole first found solace in her guitar, composing escapist songs with fantastical stories and catchy choruses.  Air Waves serves up fantastic imagery with unforgettable melodies.  You will no doubt catch yourself, hours later, singing them.  Schneit writes the viral melodies that, neither sloppy nor generic, follow you through a day or two before you’re drawn back to listen to them again.JOHNNY DYNAMITEhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/0HvUV5FFd0Z9zrhPH3Q4Lf?si=jZ3nbkeHRGqyZsuL7_vyjwSUBURBAN LOSERSSuburban Losers is a DJ team consisting of Wesley Bunch of Suburban Living & Michael Cammarata of Born Losers Records. The Tossers ~ Crazy and the Brains ~ Backroad Burners at Kung Fu Necktie

The Tossers One of the first and most enduring bands on the Celtic punk underground, Chicago’s the Tossers mix the attitude and swagger of punk rock with a muscular but respectful approximation of Irish traditional folk music. Formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1993 by Anthony “T.” Duggins, the group’s lead singer and mandolin player, the Tossers developed a reputation for their storming live show and busy touring schedule, and they influenced similarly minded bands such as the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. Mega Bog at Kung Fu Necktie

*Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry* *Attendees are encouraged to wear masks while not actively drinking*   Mega Bog On Life, and Another, Mega Bog (the world-inhabiting moniker of song-animator Erin Birgy) tends a succulent garden full of plants that the unwitting passerby might mistakenly perceive as extraterrestrial, but which are in fact very much of this Earth. Departing from the humid Holodeck spider plant nursery of previous record Dolphine (2019), Mega Bog’s new album brings us back to our home planet, into the rarefied air pressure of a dried-up desert valley where its fourteen songs were written and scattered like stones in the landscape. But true to Birgy’s alchemical writing practice, these bright stones simply refuse to blend into their arid environment, each one a precious gem chiseled by the anti-capitalist geologist’s hammer to reveal the impossible, dazzling life that inheres under the dusty exteriors of both the northern Nevada of her youth and the rural New Mexico of the album’s birth. Mustard Service ~ Beach Fuzz ~ Jackson Hart at Kung Fu Necktie

*Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry* *Attendees are encouraged to wear masks while not actively drinking*   Mustard ServiceHey hi hello Mustard Service here We are a group of five boys from Miami, Florida just looking for a good time. Now if you’d like to take the time, we’d like to tell you how this shit-show began On a warm summer evening in the year of our Lord 2015, a young college drop out is in his backyard, guitar in hands scribbling lazily on a loose sheet of paper. He taps his pen on his chin intensely, contemplating the first and only line that reads: “I’m going down”. he stares down at his pathetic excuse for an opening line and calls it a night. “eh, I’ll try again tomorrow” he says. This is his mantra. He didn’t know it then, but that pathetic little line would be the birthplace of a little band called Mustard Service and that pathetic little line would be the opening line of a little album called Zest Pop. For the next two years Marco Rivero and Armando Baeza (producer and former drummer) wrote and recorded the debut album “Zest Pop”, bringing in their friends Gabriel Marinuchi (guitar), Augusti Di Catarina (bass, backing vocals), and Leo Cattani (keys) to play the songs live as a full band. they played a few push-moshing, beer-spilling, gear-breaking, cop-calling, arrested-getting shows throughout Miami-Dade County, managing to amass a small yet passionate fanbase in their home town. In those years, GarageBand™ transitioned into ProTools™, recordings evolved into mastered tracks, and small house shows turned into packed venues. Their Debut album was released in June of 2017, relying solely on live shows and streaming platform algorithms for promotion and exposure. The algorithm gods took pity on these poor fools and granted them a world-wide audience over the span of the next three years, leading into the release of their sophomore album titled “Ces’t La Vie” in March of 2020. Beach FuzzHolding On, is the brand new EP from the indie-pop band, Beach Fuzz. This project encapsulates months of the band’s hard work writing, recording, and perfecting their sound while staying true to their DIY roots.https://beachfuzzmusic.bandcamp.com/album/holding-onJACKSON HART Jackson Hart is a Philadelphia-based indie rock and dream pop musician aided live by bassist Sophie Pritchet and drummer Olias Bendian. Moving from the small town of Boiling Springs to Philadelphia exposed him to a vibrant music scene that inspired him to pick up his guitar and start writing songs. The fast-tempo and loud punk energy of his songs meshes with a more effects-driven guitar sound to create an atmospheric and exciting listening experience.    In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events. Clockwise on Fire ~ G. Mervine at Kung Fu Necktie

*Proof of Covid-19 vaccination required for entry* *Attendees are encouraged to wear masks while not actively drinking*   Clockwise on Fire Clockwise On Fire is the musical union of longtime friends and collaborators Tim Arnold [Good Old War, Anthony Green] and Brian Lynch. The duo, who blur the lines between eloquent songcraft and instrumental fluidity, channel a spirit of unbridled freedom on their forthcoming debut album. On the 8-songcollection, mixed by Jason Cupp [Maps and Atlases, American Football, Milk Carton Kids, Good Old War], Tim contributes drums, percussion, synths, and keyboards, while Brian holds down guitar, bass, synths and keyboards, with both sharing lyrical and vocal duties. Brian and Tim first began playing music together during middle school in the Philly suburbs, experimenting, improvising, and exploring sounds at a formative age together. After high school, life carried the musicians down separate roads. Tim co-founded Good Old War, releasing four full-length albums and four EPs in addition to touring nationally, while Brian stayed local performing in various bands. In 2017, the two reconnected and launched a Primus cover band, Los Bastardos, and by 2019 had started collaborating on original music. Even in the face of the pandemic, Tim and Brianwere locked into an unbreakable groove, resulting in Clockwise OnFire.   g. mervine In accordance with Philadelphia’s citywide mandate, attendees will be required to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination for entry to all Dave Kiss Presents events.
