Blaque Dynamite ~ Corey Bernhard’s Eternity Ensemble

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM Blaque DynamiteBlaque Dynamite, a.k.a. Mike Mitchell, has given validity to the cliche that age is nothing more than a number. He began drumming at age 2, played in his first live recording session at the ripe young age of 7, and had acquired a roster of drum company endorsements by the time he turned 11 years old.   Young Dynamite gained his early development and exposure to music in a church setting. At an early age, he began to create his own music which in turn fueled his relentless passion and respect for the drums. Inevitably, he had become very interested in the pursuit of expanding his knowledge of music and honing his craft. At twelve, he embarked upon the study of music theory. At fourteen, he found himself in the hallways of the renowned Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Texas in 2009. The school also fostered the amazing talents of Norah Jones, Erykah Badu, and the late Roy Hargrove. Simultaneously, Dynamite took full advantage of attending workshops, master classes, and clinics at colleges and universities all over the country during the summer breaks between tours.  Being gifted to play all genres, Dynamite has been the recipient of a host of accolades and prestigious awards. He has received 14 DownBeat Music Awards and his impressive performance credits include Grammy award-winning artists Christian McBride, Erykah Badu, Thundercat, Michael McDonald, Bob Mintzer, Chrisette Michele, Kamasi Washington, and the legendary Clark Sisters.  In 2012, he was selected to perform on a global stage at the inaugural International Jazz Day Celebration with one of the most influential artist of all time, the iconic Herbie Hancock. Shortly after, Dynamite was reigning the drum throne for the living legend, virtuoso bassist, composer, Stanley Clarke. Then, he graduated high school! (Class of 2013)  Fast forwarding, the Grammy nominated artist Blaque Dynamite has toured five of the seven continents of the world. In 2015, he released his debut album entitled “WiFi” with Dallas-bred band, Raché. His collaborations with artists such as Christian Scott, Derrick Hodge, Doobie Powell, Kierra Sheard, Willow Smith, Talib Kweli, and Jon Bap have been the catalyst in the making of a new band leader. On April 10th, 2020, Blaque Dynamite released his third album, “Time Out” on Dolfin Records, an independent record label out of Dallas.   Corey Bernhard’s Eternity EnsembleFrom touring with superstar jam fusion group Snarky Puppy or hip-hop icons Pusha T and Talib Kweli, to backing up Ed Sheeran on SNL or playing duo with Ariana Grande live on MTV, to playing experimental sets with members of The War on Drugs, to writing and producing with Philadelphia legends Bilal and DJ Jazzy Jeff, it’s hard to fathom how Corey Bernhard has time to show up at his day job as keyboardist on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. One thing is certain: Bernhard is one of his generation’s most dynamic (and busiest) musicians. Hailed by Okayplayer as a “pillar of the Philadelphia music scene,” his solo debut Fool’s Pirouette was released in January 2022 and was featured on NPR’s notable new music playlist. Reviewing his pandemic era collaboration with friend and Philadelphia rapper The Bul Bey, SWTS (2020), WXPN raved that the duo “tackles big themes to a beautiful score.”

Zopa ~ Andorra

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM ZopaZOPA is Elijah Amitin, Michael Imperioli, and Olmo Tighe. The three-part New York indie-rock band is ZOPA, “patience” in Tibetan.https://zopa.bandcamp.com/ Andorra“Soaked in Bud Light and regret,” Andorra is Kevin McCall, Jordan Petrellis, Michael Trycieckyj, and Dante DiLoreto. The band formed in 2010 in Philadelphia, PA and named themselves after the respective city suburb (not the country.) Philly Live writes “The album, Family Tree exists within a boundary-less space of heavy rock and basement blues. All songs on the full album are explorative, yet relate to each other in different ways, fully emphasizing that familial theme.” 2024’s Boogie Night Blues captures the band’s live energy. “This one is raw, punchy, and will make you want to dance. It’s Grease-flavored, revved up Rocky Horror Picture Show energy. Boogie Night Blues proves Andorra’s chemistry as a live act and commitment to rock and roll, making it their best record yet.” – Tyler Asay linktr.ee/andorramusic

Floral (10 Year Celebration) ~ Rob Ford Explorer ~ Lowercoaster ~ Goings

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 6:30 PMShow: 7:00 PM Floral: Celebrating 10 YearsFloral is a melodic two piece math rock band from the San Francisco bay area.  Founded in 2014 by guitarist Nate Sherman and drummer Ty Mayer, the band has carved a strong following via three releases and countless tours in both the US and UK.  Eight years after their first release, Floral has proved their mainstay worth in the melodic instrumental music scene.  Floral’s live performances somehow manage to capture the same raw emotion and energy of their albums, furiously tearing through complicated passages without ever making them seem so. The band has honed the craft of serving the music before serving any need for virtuosity; but at a closer glance it is apparent that both qualities are present and fluidly blended together. Floral’s innovative sound and seamless delivery has proven itself over time as the band has only grown a larger following. Their music brings a breath of fresh air to anyone willing to listen, and is not something to be passed on. https://open.spotify.com/artist/1FVOt1XlpnaCueBolWF92k Rob Ford ExplorerMath rock desert ratshttps://open.spotify.com/artist/5moDPU7RgJe4Ydt1WRWGf8 LowcoasterPhiladelphia phreaks big riffs, bigger hearts.https://open.spotify.com/artist/7JEjkz5A00vCxzx1SrQUfX?si=MXemA33DR1OTy9CqhXmUAg GoingsWhen Chris Kearney opened up his grandmother’s dance studio after Christmas 2017 to a band of longtime friends, the rest of Goings linked up seamlessly. The Philly band’s debut, a self-titled EP that mapped out influences from Motion City Soundtrack to the Dismemberment Plan, dripped with vibrant synth and textbook-grade time signatures. With an added commitment to expanded dynamics, their debut LP ‘It’s For You’ shows off the group’s complete calling card: one that desperately seeks true togetherness in times of technological oversaturation.https://open.spotify.com/artist/1SWucm4IFusGaTVPynDmY4?si=9sG3hdQrSOe_p27acQkP8g&nd=1&dlsi=92f9b4814e2a4040

The Velveteers ~ Alex Vile

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM The VelveteersThe Velveteers, a primal rock trio from the mountains of Boulder, CO made up of singer/guitarist Demi Demitro and drummers Baby Pottersmith and Jonny Fig, will unveil their debut album Nightmare Daydream on October 8 via Easy Eye Sound. Produced by Grammy Award-winning artist Dan Auerbach, the record is the long-awaited first statement from a band that formed in 2014 and has been carefully honing its sound and identity ever since. “Charmer And The Snake,” the record’s first single, is out now with an accompanying video. Growing up in Boulder, Demitro rebelled through her guitar, practicing up to nine hours a day and neglecting schoolwork to develop a playing style that is heavy but agile, theatrical but nuanced, grounded in rock history but wholly idiosyncratic. With Pottersmith and Fig playing on a conjoined set, the band developed a reputation for their rip-roaring performances. Clips of the band’s live shows and DIY videos made it back to Auerbach, who invited them to his studio in Nashville to produce Nightmare Daydream. “I instantly dug them,” says Auerbach. “They’re amazing live, and their videos are so creative. And they just sound so powerful. Any time you doubletrack drums on a record, it’s going to sound so heavy. Then you put that together with this baritone guitar player who is so unique, and it’s so bombastic. There’s nothing like them.” Nightmare Daydream finds The Velveteers stripping down rock and roll to its most primal elements—the riff, the rhythm, the snarl—and rebuilding it in their own image. “We don’t want to sound like a band from a different time,” says Demitro. “We want to sound like a band that’s right here right now—in this very moment.” Alex Vile

Igor and the Red Elvises ~ Raisin

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM Igor Yuzov was born in Germany, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible, Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Evolving over the years, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” which contains humorous lyrics and grooves that forces his audience to dance. Over the past 20 years, Red Elvises have constantly toured all over the world with occasional breaks to record new music and to participate in film and television projects. As an independent band, Red Elvises have produced 12 studio albums, two live albums, a live concert DVD, and a Greatest Hits compilation. Some of their most notable film contributions include music and or performances in “Six String Samurai”, “Mail Order Bride”, “Armageddon”, “Skippy”,  “Melrose Place”, “Fastlane”, “Penn and Teller’s Sin City Extravaganza”, “VH-1 Behind the Music”, and “MTV”. Red Elvises have performed for large festivals, private parties, and played on massive stages such as 2005’s Live 8 Benefit Concert. No matter where they perform, Igor & Red Elvises always bring the party with them. Contour

AGE RESTRICTION: Only Ages 21+ can purchase tickets for this show. NO REFUNDS/EXCHANGES for anyone underage who purchases or attempts to use these tickets. Doors: 7:00 PMShow: 8:00 PM Contour The Charleston, South Carolina artist Contour’s body of work is evidence of a restless curiosity that culminates on his latest album and debut for Mexican Summer, Take Off from Mercy. Starting off as a beatmaker, Khari’s vision has broadened over releases like Onwards (2022, Touching Bass), Love Suite (2021, Good Question) and Weight (self-released/Purple Tape Pedigree, 2021), spanning from noirish, sample-driven R&B to covers of Strawberry Switchblade. Take Off from Mercy eschews samples in favor of guitar-driven songwriting, positing a singular take on the blues, Tropicalia, hip hop, post-punk and indie rock, establishing Lucas as an exemplary lyricist and broad collaborator, working with the likes of Saul Williams, Mndsgn and his co-producer, Omari Jazz.   Following the pandemic, Lucas toured relentlessly, recently opening a US run for Erika de Casier and appearing at Pitchfork Festival (Chicago) and Le Guess Who? Beyond his prolific solo output, recent collaborations include Black Decelerant, an ambient duo with the aforementioned Omari Jazz who just released their self-titled debut on RVNG Intl. Lucas also collaborates with the operatic baritone singer Davóne Tines as part of a band called THE TRUTH on ROBESOИ, a performance released by the venerable Nonesuch Records.   Contour is a key member of a distinct cohort of young artists weaving the traditions of Black music into thoroughly modern, avant-garde songcraft. Within his work, genres and disciplines collide. Lucas’s radio show for Dublab, Footprints in the Dark, took stock of the deep discographies of foundational figures like Gilberto Gil and Georgia Anne Muldrow. Meanwhile, Lucas has organized readings with the likes of Harmony Holiday and screened films from Black Audio Film Collective director John Akomfrah, and completed artist residencies with NTS Radio and Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works.   Within all this activity, Lucas’s sound and voice are immediately recognizable, his flow and declarative honesty heavily influenced by rap. Lucas’s recent live shows with the likes of Billy Woods and Bilal featured him roving the stage singing and rapping over samples before sitting at the piano for downcast, Bill Withers-style ballads. Take Off from Mercy is a document of hard-earned lessons learned while on the move. Omari and Khari worked on the record in Charleston, Portland, NYC, London, Paris, Georgia, LA and Houston, feeding into the album’s themes of transformation through migration. Lucas will follow the fall release of Take Off from Mercy with expanded live tours through the US, UK and Europe in fall 2024. As this flurry of activity suggests, there will inevitably be more records, shows, tours, readings and screenings in the near future. The urgency of Contour’s vision is palpable in this myriad of pursuits.
