The free time I had was spent doom-scrolling the latest covid death toll or inundating myself with news of literal fascists marching the streets. I found myself floating on a cloud of anger, fear and frustration. Rather than allow myself to fall into bad old habits or succumb to my negative emotions, I poured myself into my music. Talking about my degeneration beats actively seeking it out.” “Degeneration” was recorded at Quiksilver Studios, St. Jean de Luz, France in September 2021. Like their Manhattan comrades Sonic Youth and Swans, Live Skull funneled those influences into hard-edged music that valued melody as much as anarchy. “We loved the noise and the chaos that was happening in the No Wave bands,” says Mark. “But we really tried to fit it into a song.” Over the next decade, Live Skull released five albums and three EPs with a rotating cast of 11 members, all of whom added new ideas to the group’s evolving sound. Kyuss was formed in Palm Desert CA in 1987 and released a trio oh highly influential major label albums in the eerily to mid 1990’s. The band are hailed as the godfathers of “stoner rock” or “desert rock” , their guitarist and principle songwriter Josh Homme went on to form Queens of the Stone Age in 1998 after Kyuss disbanded in 1995. Sky Valley originally formed in 2017 by four musicians / friends in the Philadelphia area after they performed two of Kyuss’ signature songs – Thumb and Green Machine during a festival show in Philadelphia. Sky Valley is excited to reboot the project with its original players intact in 2023. KYUSS is a band with a large cult following, whose fans relish the idea of seeing their music performed live. There was a real buzz about the performances we had in 2017-2018 and we look forward to spreading the heavy sounds of the desert again!
